Principal's Message

Dr. Terrell A. G. Awak

Greetings Creekside Family, 

Welcome to the 2024 - 2025 school year! I hope you enjoyed a summer break filled with fun and beautiful memories with your friends and loved ones. I am truly excited to continue our work together as the first female Principal of Creekside High School, an AVID showcase campus, dual enrollment school, agricultural education exemplar, marching band standout, and athletics powerhouse! 

My passion for education and drive to support all students’ academic success and social development began over thirteen years ago as a science teacher at Frederick Douglass High School, where we made significant strides in raising student academic achievement. From Douglass High, I continued my efforts to ensure high-quality education for all students by building teacher capacity as an instructional coach supporting teachers at Mays High School. Later, as an assistant principal, I led Therrell High School through authorization to become an International Baccalaureate School offering its students expanded advanced academic programs, including the Middle Years, Career-Related, and the Diploma programs.

In each role, I have always sought to do what is best for students through high expectations, purposeful professional support, and active collaboration with staff and stakeholders. I am deeply committed to the reflective narrative that “Good teaching is forever pursuing better teaching.” The role of “teaching” can be replaced with our many roles in the schoolhouse, challenging each of us to be and do our best for our students. In the spirit of that narrative, I am thrilled to welcome all of you back to a new school year of continued professional learning and growth in the pursuit of positively impacting students’ lives!

I am genuinely looking forward to continuing to work closely with Creekside’s parents, community members, and staff to support a student-focused school learning environment that continues to promote a focus on rigorous and relevant learning for every student every day. My goal is to provide leadership that fosters a positive and nurturing learning environment in which students thrive academically and socially as responsible, independent thinkers and productive citizens who will one day positively impact their communities. 

Let’s make this a tremendous year for the Tribe as we reconnect, reimagine, and restore our legacy AND move forward together with P.R.I.D.E.!
